Is This a Healthy Addiction?

In another life could Rudd politician
Once have been a diagnostician?
What did he have in that black bag
He carried to his meeting with COAG?
In consultation with State Premiers
Somehow he has calmed their fears.
He’s identified the national epidemic,
Which Liberal rule has made endemic.
It’s drug related – Dependency.
They’re hooked on the narcotic, GST.
After hearing all they wanted said,
Feeding them, settling them in bed,
The PM’s statement had us reassured.
Almost all our premiers would be cured.
On Brumby, yes, he has some reservations
So he’s been isolated for observation.
Sadly, Barnett, the hard core Liberal
Might have to be discharged incurable.
Now free from GST’s addictive ‘hash’
The rest await delivery of Federal cash.
News is, soon the States with one deep breath,
Will all accept their new supplier – Dr. Death.

Come in Spinner!

More than Tony’s wheels were spinning
On that long ride for charity.
Ideas for election winning
Emerged with greater clarity.

We can now see that Action Man
Does more than cycle, run and surf.
He has conceived an Action Plan.
It’s here for you to judge its worth.

First priority is national debt.
It must come down, there is no choice.
It must not any deeper get,
As we’ve been warned by Barnaby Joyce.

For owners of small business
We will their labour force inspire
Encouraging more easiness
In rules on how to hire and fire.

Protect the borders of our nation?
We understand your natural fear!
We’ll stop illegal immigration!
Our policy on this is very clear.

Read our policies on water!
You farmers battling Labor’s drought,
We’ll ask the nation what we oughta
Do when we are back and they are out.

By the way – ‘the environment’ –
We do care, as a matter of fact.
But with its ETS the government
Has given us something to attack.

Now to our most important care,
About protecting Private Health.
Sorry! There is a misprint there.
That really should read: ‘Private Wealth.’

Healthy Debate?

Who is holding whom to ransom?
Which man should we fear?
Is it this one on the podium,
Forceful, dark and handsome,
Demanding money loud and clear?

Or is this the one who is at fault,
Seen with doctors on their daily rounds,
Bespectacled, pale and small,
Disguised amidst the masks and gowns,
Listening to the sick, the lame, the halt?

Whose claim is true? Kevin’s? John’s?
How can we know which one is just?
None of us are Solomons.
Surely one is worthy of our trust.
Or could it be both of them are cons?

wilful April 15, 2010 nice one Patricia.

Tasmanian Devilry

Tasmania has made its choice.
Mainland conservationists rejoice.
Bob Brown has spoken to McKim.
It’s known that he has counselled him
To carry on the good and holy fight
And spurn the liberals on the right
While remembering to be very deft
With union machinations on the left.
The big priority, the number one,
Is bringing down the ghastly Gunns.
McKim points out, for good or ill,
The bill’s been passed to have that mill.
Journalists who have been on tenterhooks
Report today that at last it looks
As some pundits had long ago foreseen
The government will be red with just a touch of green.
Tassie voters reading this just shrug and smile.
What else did they expect? This is the Apple Isle!

Malcolm At Last Calls It Quits

However Liberals tell the tale, with whatever a nuance,
Their knives of treachery still killed their last and only chance.
So Malcolm Turnbull’s leaving now, tired of the dance.
See how they rush to praise him as a man of excellence.
Lean and hungry Abbott, new leader well ensconced,
Graciously describes him as a man of the Renaissance.
Malcolm says his ‘au revoir’ and waves with nonchalance.
‘Noblesse oblige’ personified! ‘Honi soit qui mal y pense.’

Perhaps Newspapers Started Those Fires.

Was it only yesterday
Andrew Bolt had this to say.

”I have inside information
On Victoria’s conflagration!
A woman has been named
And she should be ashamed.
She was seen at that location
In a state of jubilation.
In a story just released.
I hear that the police
Have received damning affirmations
From a member of her congregation
Supported by their parson
That she’s confessed to him of arson.
There are growing expectations
Of more dramatic revelations
Which show the woman is a liar
And exactly how she lit that fire.
These are no idle speculations.
For even more elaborations,
With my very strong opinions on this case,
Just watch this space!”

Now there’s editorial comment
On that provocative content

“Because of threatened legal action
We publish now an interim retraction.
We will explain in good time why
There is this need to clarify.
That story from the congregation
Came from a private conversation
With a lady from that church.
It needs just a little more research.
We are innocent of defamation
And we are making no allegation
That the woman who seen was fat,
Or wearing an official looking braided hat.
Please trust Andrew’s honest motivation.
In our considered estimation,
Like us, he strives with all his skill to fight
For any cause he sees as Right.”

Kezza2,     26/11/11,     Still catching up

Bemused,    26/11/11,     One thing’s for sure. Newspapers were used, or involved somehow in fuelling the Victorian bush fire story, weren’t they?

Kezz2,    26/11/11,    Oh, how very well done, PatriciaWA!

I’d already well and truly given up on Bolt prior to the 2009 Vic bushfires, so must have missed his crappery re Nixon. And most surprised to see an apology issued by News Ltd.

But how perfectly you have encapsulated the moment. Fantastic rhyming too.
I love words and am always amazed at the gift to make words that aren’t exactly the same sound as if they are when spoken aloud. If you get my drift.     Congratulations.

Malcolm Is At Last Amused

No more disgrace or polls and party fights.
Ne’er again will I beweep my outcast state.
I still have the private power of money’s might,
As Lucy said to comfort me,  sweet mate.
See Tony now,  who once was rich in hope,
Exposed as surfing fool with hairy chest.
So much for Howard’s part, and Minchin’s role!
Now that great wealth I have will serve me best
To fly me far from Liberals’ despairing.
Julie,  I think on thee,  and Joe’s great weight.
‘Friends’  like Barnaby,  no more rejoicing.
Bronwyn, Wilson,  years ahead I know your fate.
These happy thoughts of you, and my heart sings,
As I see Rudd around you running rings!

Australian Idol

Ladies of the Left don’t like it
When Tony talks on tele
Looking bronzed and very fit.
They say it makes them shudder
And his policies are sh-t.

Methinks they do protest too much
As they deride his body bare.
At heart I think they’re really scared
Not of his policies as such
But of the message dangling there.

The tides we know are turning
The surf is up and soon we’ll see
Tony at last beach towel unfurling
Proud to proclaim his long hidden yearning.

Priapic Member! PM! PM to be!
That’s what scares the ALP.

Asylum Seekers in Our Shopping Centres!

“They’re here!” the headlines shout.
And we are too, me with my kids.
So what’s all this fuss about?
I look at them, they’re just like us,
Except perhaps for headscarves.
They’ve got no car, they came by bus.

Their kids sit in the shopping trollies,
Small brown hands restrained from
Reaching out and grabbing lollies.
Mine are staring curiously.
Then they jump around and start
To tug my jacket furiously.

“Speak up! What did you say?”
The weekend crowd is noisy.
“You want to ask if they can play?”
We mothers hesitate then smile.
Surely it can’t do any harm
To let them down for just a while.

Round and around the mall they run;
We grown-ups stand and watch
Our happy children having fun.
A whistle blows. Their kids stand still.
I’m shocked to see them change to
Tiny men who know the drill.

Mothers gather up their little broods,
And from the trollies take
Their plastic bags of Australian foods.
I watch them as they join together
Murmuring in some foreign tongue
As they softly greet each other.

Then they meekly go their ordered way,
Obedient to the last, which makes me
Want to shout “Don’t go! Please stay!”

COMMENTS:

Min, 25/10/10, Brilliant and heart felt Patricia. I think that the last phrases state how most feel, if they would allow themselves to feel.
I’m not going to say a congratulationsm Patricia, because this poem is worth so much more; it’s worth study.

National Times Promotes Abbott, Biker

As well as a cyclist
Our Abbott’s a revivalist
And all along this route
He’s revving up his image
With every photo shoot.
I really don’t like lycra
Fluro green just makes me puke
This election is for PM not a biker
He won’t win that with just a PR fluke.
Aussie voters want much more
Than a pollie who is saddle sore.
