Abbott’s Budgie Speech

We know well this politician,
Our leader of the Opposition.
His zeal is jesuitical.
His style is casuistical.
He’ll rise to expectations
With the usual accusations
Of taxes and extortion
For nationwide abortion,
Accusing Rudd of usury,
Corruption of our Treasury,
Even the RBA of bias
Though pretending to be pious.
Such is his ambition
For universal recognition
And electoral majority
I have it on authority
He’ll use this vital budget speech
To finally his budgies breach
In talk of national savings.
Then he’ll start his ravings,
Exposing himself in all his glory,
Bare arsed and rampant! True blue Tory!

Oh Yea of Little Faith!

Tony Abbott knows he’s right!
Science and historical research
Will not convince him, despite
The climate data you all cite!
From studies of the ancient church
Reading holy scriptures
In writings and in pictures
He’s seen those images of Roman times.
Invaders of the holy lands,
Shod in sandals, in short skirts,
Helmeted and holding shields,
Swords in bare brown arms and hands,
They had no need of shirts.
That’s the truth his memory yields.
All that heat and dust and blood,
Mothers clinging to their babies,
The screams and all the killing!
Yes, terrible, but somehow thrilling.

Of course it was as hot as Hades!

Taxing Times

Admit One ticket says it all,  donated by George of http://www.flickr.com/photos

As I watched Lateline last night
A big fat man gave me a fright.
His name they said was Palmer,
Claimed he’ll be our PM’s karma.
Say’s he’s got a great big axe
To cut him down with this new tax.

First a public execution
Then a miners’ revolution
Making Tony Abbott king
Of absolutely everything
In Oz, especially the mines
On which he has designs.

He’s corpulent and greedy,
With eyes so cold and beady,
I shuddered. Then it came to me.
Surely Labor men will see
Palmer has been heaven sent.
A great TV advertisement!

COMMENTS:

Acerbic Conehead,   11/03/ 2011,    Patricia WA,   Another wonderful poem, thank you so much.  As you say, hopefully people will see through these self-seekers and support policies based on the common good.

Sue,     05/03/12,    Patricia, I see by your verse you are a lady ahead of the times.

Pip,       05/03/12,

He’s corpulent and greedy,
With eyes so cold and beady,
I shuddered. Then it came to me.
Surely Labor men will see
Palmer has been heaven sent.
A great TV advertisement!
                          Perfect!

Perfect.

Pronouncing Judgement. What’s In A Name?

Before I joined this conversation
I had to check pronunciation
Of the comedienne Catherine’s name.
No one seems to say it quite the same.
I always thought it rhymed with brainy.
That’s apt and fits her image – zany.
Neil Mitchell matches it with meany
Which makes you think of Mussolini.
Imagine then my fascination
When hearing with no hesitation
Tony Jones pronouncing, “Deveny”
Only rhyme for which is heavenly!
I’m taking that as revelation
That even the holy congregation
Is forgiving of this feminist,
An outspoken forthright columnist.
Those judging her culpability,
What do you want? More humility?
Courage, daring and so called ‘poor taste’
Put right past wrongs and had the good embraced.
In their so condemnatory tones,
And willingness to cast those stones,
Commentators here should not forget
Iconoclasts like her new limits set.

Special Deal Requested for Special State

Postcard to Mr. Ken Henry
From West Australian Citizenry:
Please tell them in the ACT –
We carried you through the GFC.
We’re sick of all this spending spree,
Using over there our GST.
So Sunday please make sure there’ll be
Rewards for every mining company.
Or this the second time ’twill be
W.A. becomes secessionary!
Then the world will really see
What it means to dig for victory!

Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense!

So Malcolm Turnbull has decided to rejoin the dance.
Tony Abbott as leader now is not so well ensconced.
He’s seen as too mercurial for more than just the nonce.
Does he regret describing Mal in terms of excellence?
And that ironic prophesy of  ‘man of the renaissance?’
‘Cos there he stands,  indeed ‘reborn’ and full of nonchalance.
And however Mal explains himself,  with whatever a nuance,
Only one of them will be the Liberals’ last and only chance.

Mal’s back!

Changed tack
Tony thinks
Alas alack
This stinks
Watch my back
Have to think
Stay on track

Party hacks
Persuade him
Face facts
Double dink
We need back
His finance links
Mal’s rat pack

Kevin winks
Let’s attack
Missing link
Goldman Sachs
Big business inc
Whack Whack
Liberals sink

Mal backtracks
Hits the drink
Still unpacked
Look he’s blinked
Sad sack
Sees a shrink
Clearly cracked

In a wink
Tony’s pack
Tell him quick
Hit the sack
In the morning
Get on track
Don the zinc

Jumping Jack
Here’s our Kevin
Works flat tack
At dawn’s brink
It’s black
On white in ink
Final attack
Mal’s gone
Election’s on.

Sometimes Publication Should be Damned!

You chose high office in the public gaze,
While meeting elsewhere hid from curious eyes.
We chose to watch you in our various ways
When whisperers revealed your secret lives.

On television screens or printed page
The daily bulletins on your affaire
Amused at times or roused confected rage
With all your assignations laid out bare.

Did you, or we, give pause to think of those
With whom you both and separately live?
Or understand that families feel these blows,
Hard to forget, and harder still forgive?

In this unfair assault on innocence
Who’s more guilty? Players or audience?

Sleeping With The Enemy

In political terms it’s not in keeping
To find one side with the other ‘sleeping.’
There’s sometimes a merging of red with blue
But crossing the floor makes a hullaballoo.

Still, parties known by the colors they choose,
Sometimes coalesce their various hues.
The Nationals with their green and gold
Have joined the Liberals true blue and bold.
When the Liberal party went for the blue
They thought it stood for all that’s best and true.
Of course we know why Labor’s flag is red
It tells of all those workers’ blood once shed.
It’s clear that Greens stand up for conservation
Of the world’s environment and vegetation.

But now it seems that’s all been changed
All the colors completely rearranged
Just because a green MP has gone to bed,
Not with an honest Labor party red,
But with a Liberal of repute so ‘blue’
At first no one believed the story true.
It’s obvious the man his party will retain.
He has survived much more perverse a stain.
But should her party expel the harlot?
Will anyone vote for a Green so scarlet?

PS
This ‘lady’ in her own version
Of her romantic excursion
With a man of known perversion
Makes no claim of male coercion.
She says, “It was a mutual diversion!”

NOTES: The background to this scandal can be found in numerous articles in the West Australian newspaper like this one.
all.

COMMENTS:

hillbilly skeleton,11/09/11, I thought this woman would eventually come to her senses. Obviously not. Sigh.

Is Tony Abbott ‘peddling’ ideas or just recycling them?

How else to break monotony
With only thoughts for company?
Wheels whirl out ideas for me.
They roll out in a litany.

How can we win a lot more votes?
Keep a count on asylum boats!
That’ll get lots of headline quotes
And keep the Greens at Labor throats.

Unemployed should be down the mines.
Get bludgers off their fat behinds.
Objectors should pay heavy fines.
That’s bound to win some hearts and minds
.
So what about the nation’s health?
For that I’ll need a bit more stealth.
Why aren’t they active like myself?
I don’t rely on the Commonwealth!

Nearly there, another twenty miles!
Soon media crowding in the aisles
Will grab my latest for their files.
My party men will be all smiles.

The press they seek me everywhere
They seek me here, they seek me there
Like that Pom, no, not Tony Blair,
The one who gave the French a scare.

That’s me – ‘the scarlet’ – bloody hell!
That’s too red for a Liberal sell.
The man who’ll sound that Rudd’s death knell,
Is’ Abbott – True Blue Pimpernel.’

Footnote:
They can be blue or red, you see,
He really knows his botany.
All those years in the seminary
He learned much more than casuistry.
