Media Bias?

What’s this talk of media bias?
We at News are honest, pious,
We meet our readership’s desires.
Yes, some are climate change deniers.
Others timber industry suppliers.
They think Greenies, fans of Gaia’s,
Started those Victorian fires.
Calling conservationists pariahs?
Does that make our reporters liars?

Sea Change?

Last night we heard a voice of sanity,
Concerned about what’s right, not winning votes;
Someone prepared to show humanity
To those who flee to us in leaky boats.

As he deplored our ‘moat’ mentality,
Prepared to say we’re needlessly deranged,
I felt a lightening, a clarity,
As if the air and sea around had changed.

Lyn. Political Sword, 24/08/2010  Patricia, thankyou for your delightful two ‘pomes’.     I admire your talent very much. Keep up the good work.

Jane 24/08/10 Patricia, another great poem.  Thank you.  Pinpoints what Oakeshott stands for in just a few words.  His is a voice of reason in a storm of self-serving claptrap.

Another Occasion For A Song of Joyce!

We Lefties can again rejoice!
Nats still have Barnaby!
Amazing stroke of luck for us
Which no one could foresee.
The independents so loathe him
Our Saviour yet he’ll be.
He’s out there now advising them.
‘You’ve had your fun, you three!’
As Tony strains to make some gains
His Barnaby is there!

A Miss Is Good As A Mile.

True, not quite yet a Labor loss,
But surely already victory
For all that sloganeering dross
Pushing back our tide of history
To ignorance and fear of danger
Which centuries past had men build moats.
Slogans blind to ‘Christ, the stranger’
Shouted loud,  “We will stop the boats!”
As the tally room accounting
Provides time for contemplation
Many feel grief and a mounting
Anxiety for our young nation

Jane August 22, 2010 Patricia, excellent pome. again.

T’Was The Night Pre-Election When All Through The House

T’was the night pre-election when all through the House
Not a pollie was stirring,  not a soul there to grouse.
Policies and programs,  prepared with such care,
Were printed and published for all to compare.
Most people were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of tax breaks danced in their heads.
But me and the wife were up with our usual night cap
When all of a sudden we heard a ‘Tap! Tap!’
And out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
As I opened the window I saw in a flash
This bloke standing there with his hands full of cash,
Behind him a bike which had left tracks in the snow.
He was all dressed in lycra which gave him a glow.
Then he grinned and I knew there was nothing to fear
As he proffered the cash and a promise sincere;
If I voted for him and his ‘re-al-politick’
He’d see me alright.   But he’d  been much too quick.
The missus just behind me had her mobile out.
Whoopee! Those pictures with sound will make tomorrow a rout!

Nasking 20/08/2010 Patricia, good stuff.   Solidarity Forever!

I Do Not Trust Abbott! Never Can!

I could not, ever, trust this louse.
I would not want him in the House.
I’d rather see him in a box
Or ridiculed in public stocks.
Yes, there he could his budgies wear
And everyone could come and stare
As we all threw bad eggs and jam
At phony Tony, fork tongued sham.

COMMENTS

nasking,     20/08/10,   Patricia, luved the poem…got me chuckling. No need to apologise for speaking yer humour & valid, insightful serious thoughts by way of verse.

Miglo,    209/08/10m   Patricia, we love the ‘pomes’ and there’s no need to apologise for them. Writing pomes is a good way of expressing one’s self and we’re fortunate that you share them with us. I write lots of poems but nobody sees them as they’re just for me and I feel rewarded by simply writing them. They can be uplifting.

Jane,     20/08/10,   Patricia, loved the pome. Keep going, I’ll buy the first print of the first anthology. Miglo, how about sharing your poems? You and Patricia could be the resident laureates at the Cafe.

Skeptical,    17/08/12,    patriciawa, nice one as always     Cheers!

Miglo,    17/0/08/12,   Spot on, Patricia.

Abbott’s Confession!

So, Abbott has at last confessed,
Not, as the faithful would have guessed,
To the revered Monsignor Pell.
This may have him condemned to hell.
He’s announced he’s changed religion.
Through years as cabinet stool pigeon
He relieved the daily tedium
By studying to be a medium.
He’s found a new strong ritual
Channelling the spiritual.
This energy from his heroes
Through him to Australia now goes.
Yes,  Tony’s idol, John Howard,
And the guy they thought a coward,
Remember,  that smirking fellow,
What’s-his-name, Peter Costello.
They will run the economy
Once Tony has autonomy!
Those two will be annointed saints
When he’s PM with no restraints.
He plans to turn our democracy
Into a world’s first!    A media-cracy!

August 18, 2010 Miglo Great pome. ‘Media-cracy’ – very, very clever.

Rooty Hill Revisited

What’s all this talk of rooting?
Moving forward, moving back?
While Action Man’s out looting,
Julia’s not in the sack!
She has put her pants back on,
Thrown away those silly skirts.
She’s out there with Mr. Swan.
Kicking Abbott where it hurts.
“People, look at Wayne and me!”
She proudly says, “We can’t wait
To boast of our economy,
How we’ve kept Australia great!
Stop this talk of refugees!
That is not a real debate.
Why not everybody please?
Talk about the interest rates!”
Abbott retreats, playing coy.
Yet again he’s weaved and ducked.
What is it about this boy?
Is he asking to be f—ed?

Buzz  18 August 2010  Patriciawa: A special Mention in Dispatches for that!! Hahaha! X marks the spot!

Is Action Man For Real?

Ingenious, ingenuous,
With policies most tenuous,
Abbott,  he may be strenuous,
However,  is he really strong?
Julia,   when she heard the gong,
Came out dancing and with gloves on.
Verbiage flew to left and right.
Both seemed to give it all their might.
Wow! What a lovely bloody fight!
For several rounds points seemed even.
Tony backs off now,  poll driven.
She taunts, “What do you believe in?”
One round remains to seal their fate.
Tony says, “Let’s have that debate,
I have a pre-existing date,
A 7.30 interview.
I’d gladly share that one with you.”
Julia retorts,  “That will not do!”
And off she flies out to the west
To earn more cash for her war chest.
Leaves him with Red Kerry; distressed,
As yet again his honesty
Is questioned.   All his sophistry
Is useless now as we can see.
His promises have been doubted.
All his weaknesses are outed.
He looks likely to be routed.
He’s hoping Cairns won’t be too hard,
But Broncos there may love Gillard.
Will he be hoist on his own petard?

August 18, 2010 nasking Thnx Patricia WA, another great poem that captures the election campaign in all its glory & sewer politics.

Minder’s Memo To Self – Ring Tone!

Seeing Tone in his wet suit
Makes me think of King Canute.
He’s every inch a leader!
Family man, a good breeder,
Yeah a guy of many parts!
Ace at racing billycarts,
He’ll speak at any forum.
Goes for hours, doesn’t bore ‘em.
Who wants Julia’s debates
On dumb things like interest rates?
Now this new idea – THE PHONE!
That’s Tone – C.I.C. War Zone!’
‘Course he’ll turn around those boats!
And by God!  We’ll get those votes!
