Ta-Ra-Ra BOOM De-Ay! We had Somlyay today!

Ta-ra-ra-BOOM-deay
We had Somlyay today!

Once loyal Liberal he
Got really very mad,  you see.
They’ve gave his job to Entch.
He came looking for revenge.
He promised on his word,
As all Australia heard,
On TV,  not through a leaker,
He’d deputise the Speaker.

Ta-ra-ra-BOOM-de-ay!
Then he had an awful day!

He called to let us know that he
Had been put through the third degree.
He was very clearly told
If he was keen on growing old
By every mate and crony
Of that rotten bully Tony,
“Just forget the Speaker scheme,
Get back and suffer with the team!”

Ta-ra-ra-BOOM-deay
Julia’s had a lovely day!

Ta-Ra-Ra BOOM De-Ay! I’m Alex Somlyay!

Ta-ra-ra-BOOM-de-ay!
I’m Alex Somlyay!
A true Liberal you see!
Look how they treated me!
They gave my job to Entch!
I wanted my revenge!
I promised on my word,
As all Australia heard,
I’d deputise the Speaker.
I’m no attention seeker.

Ta-ra-ra-BOOM-de-ay!
I’ve had a rotten day.

The whole world’s phoning me.
I’ve had the third degree.
I’ve been very clearly told
If I’m keen on growing old
By every mate and crony
Of that rotten bully Tony
To forget the Speaker scheme.
Come back and suffer with the team.

Ta-ra-ra-BOOM-de-ay!
Goodbye to all that lovely pay!

Tony Abbot’s New Policy Idea – Ill Will Hunting!

When Rob Oakeshott was goodwill hunting,
There were nods, hugs, friendly gruntings
And signings of agreement by both sides
Across the political divide.

Don’t ask,  “Where now, all that goodwill?”
Or if Abbott counts its value nil.
Breaking faith on the Speaker’s Chair
Was well thought out and done with care.

That ‘kinder, gentler polity’
He’s replaced with a new ‘tough’ policy!
It’s not goodwill he’s looking for.
It’s cowed MPs who will cross the floor
As he wins power with shock and awe!

Hillbilly 24/09/2010 PatriciaWA, I love poetry, and I especially love political poetry and yours. I guess we have to reflect on the Iraq War ‘Shock and Awe’ campaign to see what the future might hold for Tony Abbott and the Coalition. That is, it was successful initially, but ultimately it saw its supporters and promulgators thoroughly discredited.

Ad Astra 24 September, 2010. PatriciaWA What lovely verses. You end so aptly with ‘shock and awe’, Donald Rumsfeld’s ill-fated slogan.

Tony Abbot Lacks Good Sense. Much Less Goodwill!

When Rob Oakeshott was ‘goodwill’ hunting,
There were nods, hugs, friendly gruntings
And signings of agreement by both sides
Across the political divide.

What happened to all that ‘goodwill?’
With Abbot does it count for nil?
Breaking faith on the Speaker’s Chair,
Did he give it thought or prayer?

Where is that ‘kinder, gentler place’
He promised with an earnest face?
What ‘goodwill’ can this man hope for?
That independents cross the floor?
Or that voters now will trust him more?

Goodwill Hunting

So, pairing for the Speaker’s chair
Wasn’t a castle in the air
Dreamed up by two independents,
Put to pollies in attendance
Together seeking compromise
Across opposing party lines.

Wasn’t that a great achievement!
Reaching a verbal agreement,
Shaking hands, hugs and feeling good,
Signing for what they understood
Was new parliamentary practice,
Trying to avoid past malice.
Tony Abbot, with smiling face,
Spoke of a ‘kinder, gentler place.’

What’s happened now to that ‘goodwill’
The experts say we need to fill
The Speakers role?   Gone without a prayer?
If Abbot claims that it was never there
Why trust anything he might sign or swear?

Min 23/09/2011 And isn’t that the truth Patricia…as you say ‘gone without a prayer, why trust anything to which they sign or swear?’

Mangrove Jack 23/09 /10 The Petrarchan sonnet is so old hat. We now have the Patrician form ! Well done !

Mr. Rabbit’s Thoughts On The Speaker Problem

I know I did agree to pair
Whoever held the Speaker’s chair.
Now though,  I am a bit lukewarm
About that contract for reform
Of parliamentary practices
Without a few appendices.
Since those bolshie independents
Put Labor in ascendance
Everything is detrimental
To my scheme for ‘ kind and gentle.’
Clearly,  they are asking for a fight,
Choosing Left instead of doing what is Right!

Comments.

Jane,     21/09/10,    Bravo!  Standing ovation for your poem!

Caveat Tony! Watch Julie!

Julie Bishop’s glare, it is said,
Could, for sure, knock any man dead.
We have noticed that this power
Has to date been used to devour
Her two Liberal party leaders.
So, ask we avid news readers,
Were these potential heads of state
Eaten by a praying mantis mate?

COMMENTS

Miglo,     18/09/10,       I agree, Patricia, this is indeed a frightening image of Ms Bishop..

So The Abbott Disapproves The Pill!

Through all the years
And all the tears
From emancipation
To wider liberation
It’s been my perception
That contraception
More than education
Has been our real salvation.
For good or ill
It was the pill
A medical solution
Which bringing resolution
To sexual disunity
Gave us equal opportunity.

Min,  September 16, 2010,     Patricia how true. I recall going for jobs in the 1970′s and being asked, And when do you plan to start a family?    The pill made the question irrelevant: Butt out nosey!

Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense (3)!

So Malcolm Turnbull has decided to seek another chance
From Tony Abbott, now as leader clearly well ensconced.
Yes, he’s the man for PM almost half the country wants
Who once had ousted Malcolm,  man of the renaissance.
So what will Tony offer him he’ll not look at askance?
Why not the NBN and Labor’s extravagance?
Commentators shake their heads on hearing his response.
Surely success with that will his rival’s power enhance
With little gain for him and his own career advance.
Oh!  Why had he not heeded old friends and Republicans
Who warned,   “The price of being Liberal is infernal vigilance!’

MY NOTE:  I’ve loved watching Malcolm’s efforts to climb the slippery pole of political ambition. I began this which has become a three part commentary at Larvatus Prodeo many months back. I’m itching to do one in which someone delivers to him that final mercy blow ‘with a sword’s edge sliding glance’ or, better still, he ‘manages Tony Abbot’s final comeuppance!’

Rainbow Politics

The mood in Downunderland has lifted.
Mr. Rabbit has not, as feared, been gifted
With the absolute power he so long sought,
Which should be his by Right, or so he thought.
A surprising mood of independence,
Having foiled his national ascendance,
Has given rise to joy and optimism.
This, Mr. Rabbit claims, is communism,
Roused with evil intent by the Red Queen,
With allies who deceivingly wear Green.
Their rainbow showers of generosity
He will attack with such ferocity
That Downunderland will never forget
How happiness can be forever destroyed by DEBT!
